Your ākonga will easily understand the concise version of this pūrākau. Moreover, I’ve numbered each section so that they can retell and rewrite on a fun story wheel. Through the story wheel,  learners can illustrate each part and make the wheel as colourful as they want to. (These require a split pin).

Included are posters about Tāne’s different names. There are four (4) posters which further discuss these names. You can post them on the wall or on a screen.  Afterwards, your students can recall them by completing a flapbook. These 4 flapped pages fit on two A4 pages for photocopying.

Finally, there’s a 25-piece collaborative poster which your whole class will definitely enjoy completing. It contains an illustration of   Tāne obtaining the three baskets of knowledge. Learners can retell this story having put it all together. On the other hand, they can also colour their own poster and write down their version of the story in the black & white mini poster.

The story of how Tāne obtained the three baskets of knowledge represents our never-ending pursuit for various forms of knowledge and wisdom. Set your students up for the challenge. Just like Tāne, nothing is impossible if you want to get your baskets of knowledge.
